*To remove the wheels, you'll need a 15mm wrench.
For nutted axles:
For Quick release axles (Like the Liberte), please see videos at the bottom of the page.
- Begin by disconnecting the brake system. Do this by squeezing the two brake arms together by hand. Do not use the brake levers at the handlebar, but rather pinch them together. Next, "thread the brake cable through the brake bridge. This will open up the brake pads to allow the tire to slide through.
Please note that this step does not require any tools.
- For front wheels: after the brakes are disconnected, loosen the axle nut on both sides of the bike. Loosen enough so that the wheel can drop freely (on the Urbano, Forte, e-Forte and Via models). For the Campo and Ferro: After you have loosened the axle nuts, disconnect the washers that hold the wheel in place from the fork.
- For rear wheels: After the brakes have been disconnected, shift the bike into the HIGHEST GEAR. This will allow you to remove the rear wheel without bouncing the chain though all the cogs. Loosen the axle nuts and remove the wheel.
Please note: If the bike is in a bike stand, take care to not drop the wheel when the axle nuts are loosened.
The rear wheel should drop out of the bike (if up on a stand)
That's it!
We have several videos on our website that talk about wheel removal and brake disconnecting. You can visit our video page by following the link or scrolling below.

If your wheel has quick release axles, the process is similar to that of nutted axles.
The primary difference is the need for tools for nutted axles and none needed for quick release axles.
